چکیده

Boundary value problems specifying how external influences on dynamic systems vary over time greatly extend the scope of qualitative reasoning techniques, enabling them to achieve a much wider applicability. This paper discusses conceptual and practical aspects that underlie the problem of handling boundary conditions in SQPC, a sound program for modeling and simulating dynamic systems in the presence of incomplete knowledge. Issues concerning the ontology (actions us . measurements), the temporal scale (instantaneous vs . extended changes), the impact of discontinuity on model structure and the consequences of incompleteness in predictions are discussed . On the basis of the experimentation done so far it is claimed that given the generality of the assumptions underlying the techniques presented in the paper, and given the relatively low computational cost that is often required to solve a boundary value problem, they are viable and can be utilized to widen the applicability spectrum of Qualitative Reasoning .

EFFECT OF BOUNDARY CONDITIONS ON LOCALIZED INSTABILITY OF THE SEMI-INFINITE ORTHOTROPIC PLATE

This paper is concerned with an investigation into the localized instability of a thin elastic orthotropic semi-infinite plate. In this study, a semi-infinite plate, simply supported on two edges and under different boundary conditions of clamped, hinged, sliding contact and free on the other edge, is studied. A mathematical model is used and a general solution is presented. The conditions unde...

Simulation of static sinusoidal wave in deep water environment with complex boundary conditions using proposed SPH method

The study of wave and its propagation on the water surface is among significant phenomena in designing quay, marine and water structures. Therefore, in order to design structures which are exposed to direct wave forces, it is necessary to study and simulate water surface height and the wave forces on the structures body in different boundary conditions. In this study, the propagation of static ...

A wavelet-based method for simulation of two-dimensional elastic wave propagation

S U M M A R Y A wavelet-based method is introduced for the modelling of elastic wave propagation in 2-D media. The spatial derivative operators in the elastic wave equations are treated through wavelet transforms in a physical domain. The resulting second-order differential equations for time evolution are then solved via a system of first-order differential equations using a displacement-veloc...

Buoyancy Term Evolution in the Multi Relaxation Time Model of Lattice Boltzmann Method with Variable Thermal Conductivity Using a Modified Set of Boundary Conditions

During the last few years, a number of numerical boundary condition schemes have been used to study various aspects of the no-slip wall condition using the lattice Boltzmann method. In this paper, a modified boundary condition method is employed to simulate the no-slip wall condition in the presence of the body force term near the wall. These conditions are based on the idea of the bounce-back ...

A Fast Immersed Boundary Fourier Pseudo-spectral Method for Simulation of the Incompressible Flows

Abstract   The present paper is devoted to implementation of the immersed boundary technique into the Fourier pseudo-spectral solution of the vorticity-velocity formulation of the two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The immersed boundary conditions are implemented via direct modification of the convection and diffusion terms, and therefore, in contrast to some other similar ...
